“Activities of daily living” (ADLs) is a term that becomes well known to an individual who is seeking supported living services to maintain or regain as much independence as possible following a catastrophic injury or catastrophic diagnoses. These are activities most of us do every day without even thinking. When an individual is recovering from a catastrophic injury, he or she often finds the need to really think about each task. There are six basic ADLs: eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring (walking) and continence. An individual’s ability to perform ADLs is important when determining the specific care the individual needs.
In addition to programs to address the six basic ADLs, there is a training kitchen at NeuLife, so our clients are able to not only meet the body’s need for nutrition, but to continue or re-learn to prepare meals. And with its proximity to the city of Mount Dora, Florida, NeuLife clients have the opportunity, as able, to shop for needed food items and prepare meals with staff supervision as needed. With a laundry room onsite, our clients can take care of their laundry needs, as able.
NeuLife’s philosophy is that healing, wellness and personal fulfillment are best accomplished in a positive and uplifting therapeutic environment where caring staff encourage, assist and support each client so he or she may achieve specific goals. NeuLife believes personal fulfillment is an equally important goal as increasing function and independence.
